Check out this jam packed room for the Saturday after party at 3rd Coast! I believe Keri Unmata was recording this (as it’s on her YouTube). Amy posted it. And yes, that was Zoe Jakes on the left. And yes, that’s April Rose front and center. Lacey Sanchez kinda does a cameo in the center and to the right, haha. I was off to the left side zilling, literally doing a backbend to keep Zoe’s arms from smacking me in the face. Music is live drumming and random dancers playing the zills.
Oh and I got to talk to and hug Kami Liddle. She really cares about giving good advice and meeting people.

I’m buying tickets for 3rd coast when I get paid, so every time I get a check, I get a ticket! I’m at least going to get the show tickets first because, let’s face it, as much as we all love the classes, the shows are what we’re really for! I’m going to try to get every Amy Sigil class that I can get my paws on and after those are bought, I’m going to purchase anything that catches my attention (like Ami Amore’s class!).
Anyways, if you are going and would like to room, I’m willing to share the cost!
Tickets are going on sale tomorrow! Get everything while you can!

TL;DR: Tribal Dance Camp is in danger of being cancelled TONIGHT. This Southern Texas retreat features a top name that no dancer should go without hearing. Space is limited to 50 people, but there is PLENTY of room to register! And please, don’t think that someone else will fill the space for you because they will probably think the same thing! Pictures on bottom.
Not a lot of people have signed up for TRAMP.
There is still plenty of space for filling!
TRAMP is the Southern Texas tribal belly dance event that I will advocate for life! There are over 20 hours of teacher instruction, free meals, free bunking, plenty of space to roam and feel free and fresh, ACTUAL INDOOR PLUMBING CONNECTED TO YOUR CABIN (which is nicely climate controlled for cold nights!), and PLENTY of time to get to know the headliners!
So what makes this event different than other workshop events?
Well, for starters this is a weekend intensive! While the learning may be fast paced for the three days you get the headliner, every class is three hours! NINE FULL HOURS of leading teacher expertise just for you! That’s an equivalent of six to nine class days!
On top of all of that, there are times between classes to get to know other students, teachers, and even sit down and talk for a few hours with the head liner! Or you can always go jump in the river for a refreshing dip after a hard workshop session!
So what else is there?
You get to have a bunk! There’s no fighting over beds, no fighting over bathroom rights, and definitely no fighting over hot water! Each cabin has indoor plumbing, hot water, showers, working toilets, working sinks, working lights, and even heaters for when the nights get cold (But this is Texas in April, so usually we don’t have to turn on the heaters). There are even fans for when things get a little too hot for yourself, and if you can’t seem to beat the heat, the shower is just around the corner to help cool you off! While the bunks make it seem like a summer time camp (which it is), they will always feel like heaven after that first workshop day.
There are three meals a day! Each entree has veggie or carni (hehe…) options so no one gets left out! There is tea and water served every day with a coke machine out by the gym if you want something sweet (but, boo, you have to pay for it!). You can also bring your own drinks whether they are liquor or not and have such a hayday down by the river at night!!! Oh the wildest parties drunk belly dancers throw… Usually you can hear them all the way to the cabins and the place is about 1/8th of a mile from them… Well… I don’t know how far, but it takes a few minutes to walk over there.
So who’s all coming to this event? Who’s the headliner?
This year we have:
Victoria Whitecotton with a lecture about the Middle East and its history.
Z-Helen for belly rolls and to teach us her VERY IMPRESSIVE coin rolling trick. If you haven’t seen her roll coins, you need to.
Michelle Manx will be doing her signature pin up belly dance style! AND she’ll be teaching us how to do pin up hair styles!
Theresa Wyatt will be showing us new Black Sheep Belly Dance SGI movements.
Angela Sparks will start off the day with yoga classes!
And last but DEFINITELY not least, we have JILL PARKER as the headliner! Wooooooooooooo!!!
So here’s the deal guys: This place is great. It has connected me to others, professionally and personal, in a great bond all over the US. Even though it’s an intensive it also feels like a vacation. The end date for early bird pricing and early deposit plans ENDS TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT, CENTRAL TIME. Every time TRAMP is mentioned in this post, it is linked to the registration page. The deposit plan is 150 for a spot, then you can pay the rest by 3/20. I plan on paying for the rest during income tax time!
I hope that you all can make it out! Please don’t hesitate to sign up!

So far I have four ranging from beginner to advanced.
I think I understand why some troupes prefer to go their own way rather than stick to one set of vocab.
Creating these combos feels powerful. Very powerful. It gives you a sense of individuality amongst other troupes.
I’m enjoying this and going to add to the vocab list. Starting first with beginner movements.

You see this woman, right here?
This is Amy Sigil, the creator of Unmata. Amazing skills, amazing speed, amazing endurance.
Also, amazing passion.
This woman changed my life for good. NEVER have I EVER been so fond of someone in my dance career. Sure, there was Rachel Brice, but I was in love with her for her skills. I’m in love with Amy because of her passion.
She cares about you and your dance career and wants to see you advance. She doesn’t do this for the money; it’s her way of coping with her problems and is an emotional release for her.
I promise you after taking a workshop with her, you’ll have renewed vigor in your dance just by watching her.
I had this lady for THREE DAYS of THREE HOUR WORKSHOPS back to back. The first workshop I sat out after an hour (she’s INTENSE!!!) and just watched. Her emotional response to all of her music was energizing and affected the whole group that managed to stay standing. Even though she was doing the same thing over and over and over for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT, she NEVER ONCE looked fatigued, unmotivated, or dissatisfied. Every movement had a renewed energy in it, the same amount of passion, through out her workshop. I had to tell her that same day that she really changed my outlook when I saw that passion. I have never seen anything like it.
She is INFECTIOUS!
The next day, I went about 2 hours with her, same passion, same energy with the exact same combo. It gave me motivation. A lot of motivation to keep going. Though, I was in unfamiliar air with so much humidity, I overheated myself and had to lay down on the cool cement floor before I died of heat stroke. But I didn’t even realize it until we took a water break.
I really bonded with Amy, taking any time I could to talk to her and get to know her. I enjoyed sitting around with everyone, but her presence really made it even better. I was more interested in what she had to say on certain topics, what her opinions were, or what her funny stories were.
She’s a blast to be with, alone and with company.
Friday night, her and Shy did a piece that debuted in Tribal Fest 11 and I cried. So much emotion in it. It was pure unadulterated emotion. I cried so hard.
Today, Sunday, we did a final workshop, but it was all lecture. The lecture was Ghostwork. I’m not going to ruin it for anyone, but…
ANYONE and EVERYONE NEEDS TO TAKE THIS WORKSHOP IF YOU EVER SEE IT BEING OFFERED!!! It really makes you face your fears head on on what’s holding you back. It makes you realize things that you never even thought about.
It’s very emotional.
Amy Sigil is now my newest and always will be my obsession from now on. She will be my mentor, whether it be through emails, phone calls, watching her videos, or taking her workshops.
I’m all Amy, now.
Please? I want her.
