Post reblogged from Belly Dance Rants with 3 notes
So I have a friend on Facebook that needs some help. She recently found out that a lot of her students are coming and ditching after not getting instant gratification. Here’s her rant:
I have something for the Belly Dance Rants.. For the past few weeks I have been getting some drop in students who for some reason do not understand that you need to practice/drill in order to be able to get the moves down right. They come in expecting to walk out after two classes dancing like Shakira. Then they begin to compare the moves with the “belly dance” moves they see and do in Zumba classes. I am at my wits end with these women and I am highly considering not allowing them back in a class!! This is the first time I encounter this and would love to get some suggestions on how to deal with them before I end up throwing them out of the class!
I told her to get rid of the drop in rate and set a monthly rate. That way if any students want to actually DO the class, they feel obliged to come for the remainder of their account and those that just want to drop in are discouraged from coming in and out as they please. And, she can do an introductory class for free to get people interested in it. Then I was thinking that when she does get a new student to have a run down on how long it takes to actually get the moves right.
Any other advice that you would like to give to her?
